“but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”https://ref.ly/Mt18.6;nasb95
““Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!”
Sometimes I wonder why God has me do the things I do, like, write this blog, but then I realize that if this does anything good for anyone and reaches at least one person for Christ, that I may have done more than I will ever know.
I’m currently at a thankless job, that I feel is constantly putting stumbling blocks before me. It does so in a lot of different ways. Betrayals, evil or rude interactions, being lied to, false promises, I can go on for days, but I’m sure I’m not the only person currently in a terrible work scenario.
So while asking God what He wanted me to focus on or write about, when I came to this, I immediately checked my heart, and if this is directed at me and I am stumbling someone, and if you who are reading this, are also stumbling someone, may the lord forgive us.
On the other hand, if you face people who are stumbling you or younger believers in your life and it is causing you to struggle with many things, as well as the consequences of the actions and choices, know that it is better for those people to have millstones tied around their neck and tossed into the sea, than it is to stumble you. This is not a profitable or wise endeavor, at least not in the way they thing it is. Jesus essentially said, woe to those who stumble you or woe to the man by which stumbling blocks come, woe isn’t a good thing. Wow is so bad that it is often juxtaposed with blessing or blesssed or blessings, essentially, happiness. Jesus is wishing the opposite of happiness or blessing upon those who stumble kids, young believers, his children, and the other interesting part is that He says that stumbling blocks are inevitable. We often tend to beat ourselves up over every little failure or sin, but Jesus said that the stumbling blocks are inevitable but woe to the one who brings it, so we can let ourselves rest to some degree, as stumbling is inevitable, that doesn’t mean it’s ok or encouraged, but that there is grace for it and Jesus knew that there needed to be.
So, may the lord grant repentance to those who are causing the stumbling, because they are currently experiencing woe, let us not rage at them but love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. May we also not be the stumblers, and if we are stumbled, may we not dwell in it or enjoy it and may we come to our lord with our problems rather than accept condemnation and destroy ourselves over it. Help us to recover oh Lord, restore us and help us to stand on our two feet, as the righteous man who gets up yet again for you, and may you guide us ever so carefully in the way you want us to go. Forgive us if we have sinned and encourage those who are weary and those who are faced with trials. We love you lord and we need you now more than ever. Amen.
